Most failed decks were never prepped. Old film-forming product has to come off, the wood needs brightening to bring the pH back and open the grain, and rough spots need sanding before anything penetrating will grab. We do all three, then apply stain at the rate the manufacturer actually specifies — wet-edge, board by board, with the ends and cut edges sealed so water never gets a foothold.
